EARLY EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Sunway City, June 2019 – Sunway Lagoon recently collaborated with Pelangi and Q-dees Kindergarten for its Phase 1 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Education Reach Out programme. The initiative aimed to provide an early learning experience for pre schoolers on effective waste disposal as part of Sunway Lagoon’s commitments to support the SDG Goals.
A short briefing was provided by the Sunway Lagoon team at the commencement of the event to enlighten the pre-schoolers on the 3Rs elements and its contribution towards reducing pollution and conserving natural resources, landfill space and energy. The students then had a hands-on experience in waste segregation through interesting and fun-filled activities.
The edutaining programme has since empowered a total of 980 children from 10 kindergartens to incorporate the ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3Rs)’ elements as the basis for sustainable waste management. “Education is the key to build awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals. We see the importance of inculcating good 3Rs habits from a young age as it is the first step in reducing waste. Phase 2 will see Sunway Lagoon collaborating with Smart Reader as well as Real Kids to further its commitment in promoting 3Rs concept amongst the younger generation,” said Sean Choo, General Manager of Sunway Lagoon.
SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, the Nickelodeon characters paid a surprise visit to conclude the children’s Best Day Ever, in conjunction with the Sunway Lagoon Nickelodeon Raya campaign.
Aside from the SDG Education Reach Out programme, the Asia’s Premier Park also advocates sustainability through numerous events in recent years such as the World Earth Day, Earth Hour Blackout Fest, Fishing Frenzy, World Animal Day events and the Wildlife Heroes program which created awareness on wildlife and nature conservation among the younger generation.
